A few hours later, Liam wiped the sweat off his forehead, admiring the clean and organized ranch. He turned to Charlie and said, "I never thought I'd see this place looking so good."

Charlie chuckled, wiping his own forehead with his bandana. "Well, I'm just happy to help. It's not every day I get to wrangle cattle and cut grass."

Liam nodded, grateful for the help. "You sure know your way around a ranch?"

Charlie’s shoulders lifted and dropped. "I've had my fair share of odd jobs. And besides, it's not so different from working on my farm."

“You’ve got a farm?”

“My parents,” Charlie corrected. “When they died, they left everything to me and my brothers.”

“Oh,” Liam replied. “I think I’ve heard of them. Derek is that big-shot sheriff in Moonstone Hollow and I think the other one is a notorious gunslinger?”

“Gunslinger?” Charlie laughed, rubbing the back of his neck, flushing. “Yeah, probably. I haven’t heard from them in a while. Michael was supposed to come to visit a few months ago, but I guess he got delayed.”

“Maybe he didn’t want to visit,” Liam stated.

“Gee, thanks,” Charlie grumbled.

Liam laughed. “I mean, you know there isn’t much to do in Silverclaw Falls. He’s probably better off wherever he is now. Plus, I wouldn’t exactly call what we’re doing interesting either.”

“Well, with that attitude…” Charlie muttered.

Liam bristled, and he wasn’t sure how this conversation was turning into some sort of faux argument. “I don’t care either way. Invite him or don’t. What does it matter to me?”

"I see you're not just good with horses, but with people, too. How charming."

Liam felt his temper flare, and he turned to stare at Charlie, who seemed to bite back a smile and Liam realized he was just fucking around. As usual. “Are you done teasing? We’ve got work to do.”

“Yes, sir.” Charlie’s mouth pulled into a smile.

Despite their silence, they worked for several more hours until the heat became unbearable. Liam considered taking a small dip in the nearby pond but decided against it when he saw the sweat covering the beta’s forearms. Taut veins snaked along his arms as he flexed his muscles, organizing his father's disarrayed equipment. With each smooth movement, his muscles rippled like waves on the ocean as he lifted the heavy tools. Liam felt a twinge of envy as he watched the display of sheer strength, with biceps bulging like coconuts. Charlie's body was powerful, like a well-maintained machine, a testament to his daily hard work.

Liam's nipples hardened, and he clenched his hole as he averted his gaze from the scorching air. Charlie was too damn attractive to be a beta. He was also so unassuming he could see why most omegas overlooked him. Charlie was as relaxed as the ripples in a pond, with no worries to be found. The alphas were known for their aggressiveness and would have likely tried to mount him by now.

Look, but don’t touch. Liam’s throat went dry and before he could stop himself, he spoke. “You should cool off at the pond nearby.
